Ни одно человеческое существо не могло бы взять на себя такое количество злых деяний, которые Холмс приписывал профессору.
Невольно на ум мне пришло воспоминание о заклятых врагах, с которыми боролся Дон Кихот. Благодаря тому что в сюжет вводится доктор Фрейд, читатели получают возможность увидеть, каким именно образом Мориарти, свидетель и вестник семейной трагедии Холмсов, становится преступным гением в глазах героя. Так же, как в «Дон Кихоте», мы видим происходящее то глазами безумца, то глазами его слуги, враги, с которыми он сражается, превращаются в мешки с мукой и ветряные мельницы, а прекрасная дама — в деревенскую девушку. Вместо преступного гения Холмс борется со своим бывшим учителем математики, абсолютно тихим и ничтожным человеком.
